I was in the fortunate position to be visiting a company in Poland as part of my work and due to the flight times giving us a spare day, they had laid on a trip to the Wieliczka salt mine, just 30 minutes outside of our base at Krakow. I’m glad they did.

The mine has 9 levels, 245km of corridors and is 327m at its deepest point. As tourists, we were only able to see a fraction of the mine and based on the fact that this took several hours, I’m pretty glad about that. I won’t try and tell you about the mine or my experiences in it because the reality is their own web page does a better job of that and they don’t oversell it. You can visit that here: https://www.wieliczka-saltmine.com

The scale of the mine, with the green areas open to tourists and the orange ones used by miiners

What I can do though is share some of the photographs taken during the visit to give you that birds-eye view of so you can see for yourself whether it’s worth the visit. I would recommend it.
