In case you were wondering: Lacock Abbey in the village of Lacock, Wiltshire, England, was founded in the early 13th century by Ela, Countess of Salisbury, as a nunnery of the Augustinian order. The abbey remained a nunnery until the suppression of Roman Catholic institutions in England in the 16th century; it was then sold to Sir William Sharington who converted the convent into a residence where he and his family lived. It was fortified and remained loyal to the crown during the English Civil War, but surrendered to the Parliamentary forces once Devizes had fallen in 1645.

Came down from the home office to find this little treat being offered. A home first for Mrs Dadonabike and I was asked what I thought of it. Now this is where things went wrong. How was I to know I wasn’t being asked to give a Paul Hollywood Bake Off type review? I honestly did think it was moist, with a good consistency and the taste was great! So I scored it down slightly on presentation, but to be fair I do think it would have looked better with slices of dried banana on the top. You live and learn.

I’ve turned into a walker of late. The good news is that I have this lovely village to take in now.
